Is an 86-inch smartboard large enough?
It can be, but room depth, seating angles, text size and lesson layout determine the answer. “86-inch” describes a diagonal, not a guaranteed viewing distance or class capacity. Test a representative worksheet and presentation from the farthest seat before choosing.
Large text on a 75-inch display can be easier to read than a dense spreadsheet on a 98-inch display. The lesson content and how teachers zoom it matter alongside the hardware.

75 vs 86 vs 98: what changes?
At the same aspect ratio, an 86-inch screen is about 14.7% wider than a 75-inch screen, with about 31.5% more image area. A 98-inch screen is about 14.0% wider than an 86-inch screen, with about 29.9% more image area. Those are geometric differences, not measured readability improvements.
If the entire lesson is scaled proportionally, its content grows with the screen. If software instead uses the space for more columns or windows, individual text may not become larger. Test the presentation mode you intend to use.

Run a room test before you order

- Check the farthest seat, both side seats and glare at the time of day the room is used.
- Check whether teachers and students can reach the controls they need at the proposed installed height.
- Verify clearances, doorways, wall structure, mount ratings and access routes separately using actual product dimensions and qualified installation advice.
