Computing explained

Android, Windows or a teacher laptop?

The display is the shared surface. Choose its computing environment around the applications, accounts and support model your school already uses.

What is an OPS computer?

An OPS computer is a modular computer designed to plug into a compatible display’s OPS interface. OPS stands for Open Pluggable Specification. It provides a standardized approach to the module’s connection and signaling; the display and module must still be compatible.

Intel’s OPS introduction explains that interface. An OPS slot is not proof that any module, operating system or performance level will work in a particular panel.

Three ways to run the lesson

Computing choices for a classroom display
ApproachUseful starting situationQuestions to resolve
Integrated AndroidLessons can run in the display’s supported apps or browserRequired apps, account access, saving/export, updates and session cleanup
Teacher laptopTeachers already have a managed device with their lesson softwareVideo/audio/touch connection, adapters, charging and switching between users
Optional Windows OPSThe room needs a dedicated Windows computer at the displayModule compatibility, Windows licensing, applications, management and support ownership

Does every classroom need Windows OPS?

No. If existing laptops already run the required software and connect reliably, a separate room computer may duplicate an existing resource. If a room needs a dedicated Windows environment independent of a teacher’s laptop, a compatible OPS configuration may be worth evaluating.

Do not assume that choosing Android prevents laptop use, or that adding Windows guarantees compatibility with every teaching application. Test the application version, account and input behavior on the quoted setup.

How the Vertex lineup fits

Vertex Standard and Vertex Pro list Android 14; Vertex Elite lists Android 15. Pro lists 8GB RAM / 128GB storage with an optional 16GB / 256GB upgrade. Elite lists 16GB / 256GB. Optional Windows OPS is publicly listed for Pro and Elite. Confirm options for the exact model and size.

Google application availability is configuration-dependent. Android version or a working Google account is not evidence of EDLA certification under the Penthia brand. If certification is mandatory, request exact-brand, exact-model documentation before treating a configuration as eligible.

Test sign-in and sign-out as carefully as playback

Use a school-managed test account approved by IT. Open the actual application, work through a lesson and save the result. Then sign out, change teachers and check whether files, browser sessions or account access remain available.

Ask which organization owns operating-system updates, application updates, licenses and device recovery. An OPS computer and the display’s Android environment may require separate administration. Do not assume that a management feature covers both.

Ask for a complete computing specification

  • Exact display and, if selected, OPS module configuration
  • Operating system edition/version and license responsibility
  • Required application versions and any paid subscriptions
  • Verified video, audio, touch and peripheral routing
  • Update, account and recovery workflow for each computing environment
  • Support responsibility when the issue could involve the display, computer, cable or app

Use the connectivity guide to test the physical path and the IT checklist to record acceptance. Compare Vertex configurations before requesting the final quote.
